Why is Mattress Cleaning Important

A clean mattress is a healthy mattress. Dust mites thrive in dirty mattresses, so regular mattress cleaning helps prevent dust mite allergies and reduce asthma triggers. Regular cleaning also reduces the spread of bacteria and viruses.  A clean mattress goes a long way in improving your quality of sleep as well as the quality or air that you breathe. Regularly cleaning will ensure you are not rolling around and inhaling an amalgamation of nasty particles — including allergy-causing dust mites, fungal spores, bacteria, plasticisers, flame retardants, and human skin cells — 8 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Benefits of a clean mattress

Besides the fact that it is pure bliss climbing into a freshly made bed, a clean mattress offers a lot of benefits such as:

Increased air quality

A dirty mattress is one of the major contributing factors to polluted air in a room. When you factor in how much sweat, dust, oil, and shed skin there is on your mattress, it’s easy to see why it can pollute the air around it. The room starts to smell a bit and you will be breathing in whatever there is on the dirty mattress. The main benefit to having your mattress cleaned is to instantly increase the air quality in your home.  It removes biological contaminants caused by a dirty mattress and fights odours that may affect your sleep at night.

Reduces the risk of allergies and itching

It’s hard to sleep at night when you’re constantly itching, sneezing or blowing.  Dust mites and fungi can trigger allergies which can disrupt your sleep. Cleaning your mattress reduces the risk of allergy triggers, itching, and prevents certain illnesses by getting rid of harmful bacteria.

Prolonged lifespan of your mattress

A mattress can be a fair size investment.  Cleaning your mattress is essential if you want it to last for years.

So next time you change your sheet, ask yourself this question - when last have I cleaned my mattress? Might I just be putting my freshly washed sheets on a dirty mattress?

Is your current mattress making you sick?

A mattress can harbour 100,000 to 2 million dust mites. Dust mites are scary looking 8-legged spider looking creatures. People are not allergic to the dust mite as such but to their cast body parts and droppings. Each dust mite produces 200 times its body weight in waste in the course of its short life that is an average of about 20 fecal pallets per day. Multiply that by 100,000 (or 2 million) dust mites living in your mattress you get A LOT of fecal pallets.

The droppings are also very fine (20-25 microns) and end up in pillows, mattresses and get spread through the air.  The enzymes in these dust mite droppings have been found to be a major cause of allergic reactions and associated with childhood asthma.

When breathed in by someone who is sensitive to the enzymes, it can cause wheezing, sneezing, itching an all sorts of non-fun asthma and allergy symptoms like eczema, hives, rashes and skin reactions.

If you constantly suffer from any of the dust mite induced allergy symptoms especially during the night and when you wake up, the trigger and cause may be lurking in your mattress!

Importance of a good mattress cleaner to remove allergens

If you are looking for a good mattress cleaner, make sure you choose one with superior equipment.

  1. You need a vacuum with powerful vibrating suction and a double-HEPA filter to remove allergens, natural build-up and other particles.

  2. Furthermore you do not want chemicals or any form of liquid (steam or water) on the mattress, as using these can damage the mattress fibers and in some cases void the mattress warranty. Added moisture can also cause mold in the mattress.

  3. Safesnooze uses a TGA approved UVC surface disinfection device to sanitise the mattress surface and rid it from micro-organisms.  See this blog to read why UVC is so effective in cleaning your mattress.

UVC light (when emitted at the right wavelength and amount of time) damages and inactivates inactivates microorganisms by destroying their nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA, making it impossible for the them to replicate, thus helping to control the colony and limit the spread of disease and infection.

This combination of removing build-up in the mattress and then UVC treatment, brings a superior standard of sanitising and allergen removal to your mattress leaving it fresh, clean and ready for immediate use.
