Frequently Asked Questions

  • Luckily NO. Dust mites do not bite. However, some individuals are allergic to the enzymes in the dust mites feces and cast bodies.

  • Dust mites cannot drink water, so they rely on absorbing the moisture from the air. That's why you'll find them living in your bed where mattress materials trap sweat that collects every night. Dust mites also eat flakes of dead skin cells that people shed. An average adult person may shed up to 1.5 grams of skin in a day. This is enough to feed one million dust mites.

  • Yes you can, however disinfection is a medical term and if a provider does not have a medical certification, they cannot claim to disinfect your mattress and are merely cleaning.

The SafeSnooze UVC machine is registered as a medical device by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA ID: 267167). It is the only certified mattress disinfection device in the world, proven to kill 99,99 % of all know micro-organisms on your mattress. SafeSnooze can most certainly claim that we can disinfect your mattress.

  • Short-wavelength germicidal ultraviolet (UVC) light kills or inactivates microorganisms by destroying their nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA, making it impossible for them to replicate, thus helping to limit the spread of disease and infections.

  • By adding liquid and chemicals you are creating the exact environment you are trying to avoid - moist, damp and wet conditions - perfect for mould and dust mites to thrive.

All mattresses have warning labels stating not to use water or chemicals for cleaning. In some cases, you will void your warranty if the manufacturer knows that water or chemicals were used.

  • Our treatment first removes allergy triggers (dust mite feacel matter and cast bodies, pet dander) and discarded skin (food source for dust mites) from the mattress. Then we use our UVC machine to sanitise and disinfect the mattress surface.

Rest assured that your mattress will be disinfected and sanitised to a medical grade standard after a SafeSnooze treatment.

  • Allergists, paediatricians, allergy foundations and doctors alike recommend regular cleaning of mattresses. The American Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (AAAI) advises vacuuming your beds every two to three months. Most recommend vacuuming the mattress every time you change your sheets. At SafeSnooze™ we recommend disinfecting and sanitising of mattresses at least every three to four months, as the lifecycle of dust mites are around three months and with regular disinfection you can control the dust mite colonies.

  • Mattress toppers are nothing more than an additional layer of material that the dead skin and debris gets past before settling in the mattress and feeding the dust mites.

  • On the day of your appointment, please remove all bedding and covering including mattress toppers to leave a bare mattress and pillows. Additional fees will apply if the SafeSnooze team has to perform this task. Give the sheets a nice warm (60 degrees or higher) wash and clean the toppers as per manufacturer’s instructions, so that you can make your bed with fresh clean linen. Please also move all bedside tables to allow easy access all around your beds. If you have a bunk bed, please take the top bunk mattress down and place it on the floor.

  • Your bed can be made and used immediately. We do not use any chemicals or liquid so no drying time required.

  • The entire process takes around 15-20 minutes per bed.

  • No, but your bed will be disinfected and sanitised - free from disease causing micro-organisms. For stain removal, please follow your mattress manufacturer’s guidelines.

  • No. We suggest you vacuum your headboard regularly and place the mattress toppers and protectors in your tumble dryer or wash as per the manufacturer’s guidelines.

  • We currently only service Sydney’s North Shore and Northern Beaches by request but give us a call to see if we might be expanding into your area
