FAQ About Mattress Cleaning (Sanitising and Disinfecting) in Sydney

Find out how UVC light can sanitise your mattress and support dust mite and other allergy management.

Is vacuuming, spraying or steam cleaning my mattress enough to get rid of bacteria, germs and viruses?

  • Unfortunately not! In fact, adding moisture - steam or chemical spray - creates a thriving environment (moist, damp and wet) that only causes micro-organism and dust mite colonies to grow.

  • Most mattresses have warning labels stating not to use water or chemicals for cleaning. In some cases, you will void your warranty if the manufacturer knows that water or chemicals were used.

Why use UVC technology to sanitise a mattress?

  • Short-wavelength germicidal ultraviolet (UVC) light kills or inactivates microorganisms by destroying their nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA, making it impossible for them to replicate, thus helping to limit the spread of disease and infections.

Will a mattress topper protect my mattress from dust mites?

  • Mattress toppers are nothing more than an additional layer of material that the dead skin and debris gets past before settling in the mattress and feeding the dust mites.

Does everyone have house dust mites?

  • Due to their microscopic size size dust mites can be found in almost every house. In Sydney we are more prone to having dust mites due to the higher humidity.

Can I use my own vacuum to extract allergy triggers from my mattress?

  • You can give it a go. Many clients have commented that they used their vacuums (that are also used on the floors) to vacuum their mattress and then can not believe how much we can extract with our process, after numerous attempts themselves. Our vacuum is very powerful custom-built vacuum that vibrates to lift debris of the mattress.  It is also ONLY used on mattress and disinfected after every treatment.

How often should I sanitise and disinfect my mattress?

  • Allergists, paediatricians, allergy foundations and doctors alike recommend regular cleaning of beds. The American Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (AAAI) advises vacuuming your beds every two to three months.

  • Most recommend vacuuming the mattress every time you change your sheets. At SafeSnooze™ we recommend disinfecting and sanitising of mattresses at least every three to four months, as the lifecycle of dust mites are around three months and with regular disinfection you can control the dust mite colonies.

How do you get germs and dust mites out of a mattress?

A SafeSnooze™ treatment extracts disease and allergy causing micro-organisms and triggers from the mattress. We then sanitise and disinfect the mattress and pillows with UVC germicidal light to destroy micro-organisms and dust mite eggs. Our UVC machine is registered as a medical device by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA ID: 267167). It is the only certified mattress disinfection device in the world, proven to kill 99,999 % of all dust mites, thus disinfecting your mattress.

All of this, without any liquids or chemicals. So we effectively remove the dust mite food source, destroy the DNA of the dust mites so that they can’t replicate and destroy the DNA of the dust mite eggs so they cannot hatch. All of this assists in managing the colony of dust mites in your mattress.

What makes the SafeSnooze™ service unique?
